The Amino Acid Sequence of T4 Phage Lysozyme

A total of 47 peptides have been isolated from a chymotrypsin digest of T4 phage lysozyme by column chromatography, followed by paper electrophoresis or paper chromatography (or both). Their complete or partial amino acid sequences were determined. Utilizing information obtained from 16 overlapping peptides and seven incompletely digested tryptic peptides, it has been possible to assemble 26 nonoverlapping tryptic peptides to five unique fragments of this enzyme. Chymotryptic peptides also accounted for a total of 164 amino acid residues of T4 phage lysozyme.
